Travel Writing: Sharing a sense of place
Deston Nokes grew up traveling the world and never lost the bug. For 30 years, he has been based in Portland serving as a travel writer for a variety of regional and national travel clients.
Deston enjoys the personalities and cultural quirks of different destinations. Rather than just listing things to see and do, he enjoys sharing the points of view of the folks who live in or visit a destination. Giving the reader a full sense of place is important.
From sharing writing about the newest eateries and hotels, to more active pursuits such as paddle boarding and exploring, Nokes has been telling travel stories through features published in Alaska Airlines Beyond, Bon Appetit, The Oregonian, CityPASS, Seattle P.I., Boston Herald, Jetsetter, FORE, Fodor’s Travel Guides, Travel Portland, Hawaii Magazine and Robb Report. Check out his published works in the PORTFOLIO section of this website.
